Anita K. Smith Obituary

Anita K. Smith

Newark - A memorial service for Anita Kay Smith, age 70, will be held on Tuesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 N. Fifth Street, Newark with Pastor Mark Pierce officiating.

Anita passed away peacefully on June 29, 2018 at the Pataskala Oaks Care Center. She was born on September 20, 1947 in Newark, Ohio to the late Raymond E. Shaw and Mary Rose (Moss) Ross.

Anita grew up riding horses on her Grandpa's farm and was an animal lover at heart - her dogs always enjoyed the best life! She graduated from Newark High School with the class of 1965, and later, from beauty school. Her passion for cooking and baking led her to start her own catering and cake-baking businesses. She was independent and feisty, strong-willed and never afraid to share her opinion. She was musical and artistic, sentimental and kind. She wore her heart on her sleeve, loving deeply and fully. She was a beautiful-hearted woman who often gave more than she got. Most importantly, Anita loved her family and was a wonderful mother to her daughter, Kelly.

Anita had an ornery sense of humor, and never missed a moment of fun. She loved to travel - especially to the beach or Las Vegas, play bingo, play cards and board games, do word puzzles and Sudoku, and go to the casinos to play the slot machines. When she wasn't adventuring with her friends or spending time with her family, Anita enjoyed reading, watching movies, sewing, quilting, cross stitching, and other crafts.

Anita is survived by her daughter, Kelly (John) Reed; granddaughter, Kirsten Reed; sister, Janet Durbin; many nephews, and many friends. In addition to her parents, Anita is preceded in death by her brother, Gene Shaw; step father, Edwin Ross; and step mother, Sandy Moore.
