Robert Lee Sellers, Sr.

NEWARK: A Homegoing Service for Robert Lee Sellers, Sr., 68 of Newark, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark with Rev. Dr. Michael A. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Bobby passed away quietly in his sleep on Saturday, January 24, at 3:40 am at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. Affectionately known as "Big Bob," he was born the baby boy of five children on December 22, 1946, to Charles and Lucille (Moorer) Sellers in Newark. Bobby enjoyed playing basketball as a child; he was a starting player for Newark High School and he was later inducted into the Newark High Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 along with his son, Bobby, Jr. Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Magdaline "Beany" (Brown) Sellers on April 16, 1966. Shortly after wedding Beany, Bobby enlisted in the US Army where he served for four years. Following active duty service Bobby served in the National Guard. He worked and retired from Rockwell International. Bobby always had a mind to work for himself and to be his own boss; he had several lawn and snow clearing services. Bobby lived hard and played hard; he enjoyed life to the fullest. Bobby loved all his children in his own special way. He was a member of the American Legion and the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Bobby is survived by his nine children, Martinez Sellers, Lisa Ghiloni, Daniel Bright, Robert Sellers, Jr., Tosha Sellers, Christopher Cabiness, Nia (Will) Spivey, Kayleigh Laughman and Quincy Sellers; and his 15 grandchildren, Rayven Sellers, Khalif Murrell, Isaiah Taylor, Christian Sellers, Mya Taylor, Paxton Bright, Destiny Miller, Unique Miller, Anika Cabiness, Cameron Spivey, Kyon Miller, Brendyn McCoy, Braxton McCoy, Aria Cabiness, and Samiyah Spivey. Bobby is also survived by his siblings, Bernice (Art) Matthews, Earline Sellers, and Olivia Thomas; and special friends, Mary Farmer and Ralph Franklin.

Preceding Bobby in death were his mother, Lucille Sellers; brother, Lee Sellers; and a niece, Audrey Matthews.
