Jeffrey Swartz

Jeffrey W. Swartz, 75, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023. Jeff was born August 7, 1947, in Newark, OH, to the late Murrel B. “Lefty” and Dorothy (Deck) Swartz. He graduated from Newark High School in 1965 and from Franklin University in 1970 with a BS in Business Administration/Accounting. He began working at Columbia Gas Credit Union (later became Core One) as a college student. He became President and CEO and retired after facilitating the merger of Core One with KEMBA Financial Credit Unions. Jeff was an Eagle Scout. He earned the God and Country Award and participated in the Order of the Arrow. Camp Falling Rock provided various camping experiences. He attended several National Jamborees and trips to Philmont Scout Camp in Cimmaron, New Mexico. Jeff was a member of Newark Masonic Lodge #97, Columbus Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shrine Temple. With his family and scouters, he spent a lot of time at his parents’ hobby farm on Sunnyside Road, McKean Township. Upon retirement, Jeff and his wife Betty, became owners of the farm and built a beautiful home on the top of the hill overlooking the property. They both enjoyed the country life until Jeff’s health prevented him from keeping up with the farm work. They moved to Florida in 2018. Jeff is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty (Wolf), of Ormond Beach; his daughter, Trixie (Eric) Hubbell of Columbus, OH; granddaughters, Brittany (David) Hydorn of Glenview, IL, Brooke (Joshua) Gaul of Grove City, OH, a grandson, Caleb Harshbarger of San Diego, CA; three greatgrandchildren, Kyler and Logan Harshbarger and Melodie Hydorn; two sisters, Julia (Tim) Loughman of Newark, OH and Elaine (Marc) Ayle of Westerville, OH along with several nieces and nephews and their children. There was a gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 to remember and honor Jeff. A private graveside service followed on February 8th at Newark Memorial Gardens, officiated by members of the Newark Mason Lodge.
