Salem - Bruce Eric Goddard of Salem, MA passed away peacefully in hospice care on November 18, 2021.
Bruce leaves his beloved husband and partner of 50 years, John Casey. They formally married on September 1, 2004. Bruce is also survived by his many, many friends who loved him dearly.
Bruce was born on March 25, 1947 in Zanesville, Ohio to Helen and Samuel Goddard who have predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his older brother Roger. Bruce attended Ohio State University.
Bruce met John Casey while on vacation in Provincetown and they immediately became inseparable. Bruce soon relocated to Salem to begin his life with John.
Bruce was a talented interior designer. He worked for many years for Brewster Wallcovering, handling major hotel and design accounts throughout the country. In 1981, he and John founded Salem Interiors, a premier design firm, serving corporate and residential clients worldwide. Bruce's eye for detail, especially color, was second to none. He was active in design projects until his recent illness. His death from glioblastoma came barely 12 weeks from diagnosis.
Bruce was an Overseer at the Peabody Essex Museum, Vice President of the Board at the House of the Seven Gables, and a long-term active member of Historic Salem and Chestnut Street Associates. Bruce was a gentle soul, known for his kindness, compassion and generosity. His friends could count on him for unconditional love and support. He and John had a blessed life together in their beautiful home and garden.
